Soffit Wide Open | Raccoon Caught on the Roof at Entrance
Ryan made a creative raccoon set on the roof where the animal is getting inside.
Key points:
The hole the raccoon is getting in shouldn't have been there. A contractor screwed up.
Someone tried ground trapping without getting on the roof. This often doesn't work.

Capturing Trap Shy / Trap Smart Raccoons | Patience, Communication, Tactics

Animals previously trapped become educated to traps. These trap shy (actually trap smart) raccoons are difficult to catch. Ryan discusses this situation and what it takes to get the job done. Success comes from patience, changing tactics, and trapper/customer communication.

Squirrels and raccoons that are getting into a home somewhere at the gutter line or higher often make little messes. Bits of wood and insulation often fall to the ground below an entrance. Looking low around your house can help inform you of troubles without needing to get on a ladder.

Is Wildlife Getting Inside? | Check the Foundation | Make Simple Exclusion

Modern foundations with block and glass block are normally animal proof. We've found that older foundations (more than 100 years old) are often more of an issue for animal entry. So check out those foundations too for animal entry! Ryan does so here and makes a simple exclusion.

    Easiest way to tell, besides the difference in pitch, is the duration of the noise. Frogs will make noise throughout the day for up to an hour each occurrence, while baby racoons really only make noise 5 to 15 minutes at a time, only two or three times per day.

    How far up the trap do you place the bar? ALso, I had one get trapped, but it escaped- I think it had an accomplice. I've added velcro to the setup to maybe make it less easy to push the trap ope from teh outside? Also, I use a metal tin, they take it out. Can I wire that to the base so that its contains the bait?

    Thank you for this video. I’ve been haunted by a supposed video of a guy with children at his farm to see the animals. I was looking for nice videos to brighten my day and what saw I can’t handle. This guy starts talking and then the chickens start going crazy in a tiny pen off of a coop, he takes off running telling the children to stay back. He acts like he’s firing a weapon without sound and there lays the animal. It’s a raccoon. Then acting astonished a raccoon could get into his chicken pen and I shut it off. Just kept going back to the raccoon and his astonishment. Obviously it wasn’t a well constructed pen and carrying a weapon as opposed to scaring it off and to trapping and relocating was just shocking. We would scare off predators with loud banging noises and then fix any problems with their house. We never had to kill another animal. We had foxes and weasels everywhere. I’m haunted by it because I’m raising a baby raccoon when its mother was killed with Highway construction. He couldn’t even walk yet. I’ve had him since he was just around the 2 week point in development. He just turned 7 weeks and I’m having troubles getting him weaned. Then I was going to take him to a rescue. After seeing that video today, I’m so worried. They spend a year with their mom’s learning how to live. He’s imprinted on me and it’s getting so hard after seeing someone do what he did today and just panning at the raccoon and to his astonished face and back again a few times. It’s not the raccoon fault. Right? Maybe I’m just too vested knowing how long they need help to become independent. But please know I’m so thankful you do what you do. Trapping and relocating. This video really showed a lot with extensive damage and poor construction as well as neglect. We never had problems with any eaves or roofing. We even had pens for different types of chickens and their purposes. Our chicken house was made out of an old shack we moved in from 1 mile away and put on a new foundation. They all had free roam of their territories which were huge. Again thank you for this video. It’s helped me some with my fear.

    Those green tube traps won’t hold the big skunks. I’ve seen where they go in and trigger it but their tail is still out. They hold the door up with their tail and back out. I think the 30” or longer traps are better

    Use "RED" tape for poly sheets sold at home improvement stores to mask the area. Add a concrete stucco repair but wet it with a bonding additive by brush. Sold for about $8 a quart in the concrete dept. apply with a water damp cheap brush (They can be washed) The top coat saved from the original application can last years if sprayed with nitrogen from a small rented tank. You get your deposit back when returned. Make sure the seal is clean and snapped on tight and it will last for years. Towel on or spray with drywall hopper, then trowel/ rubber float the spot to match texture. I don't do this for a living but my last 7 year job had me teaching 4hr tech seminars in 7 states. A lot of hotel time. I simply watched new go up, sometimes for insulation value, but I ask questions. Western fires and smoke have driven these woodpeckers East to the Midwest and further. Instead of food, a home is what they want. My Daisy BB rifle doesn't know the difference.

    • @Frontlineanimalremoval
      @Frontlineanimalremoval Місяць тому

      Modify the trap so she can’t track in for the bait. This can be done with cardboard, wire, or a trap with smaller wire. Careful trapping in the attic. She may spook and avoid the trap altogether. Place trap where she exits/enters the attic.

    Be careful not to use too much foam because it will expand and can press the surrounding stucco walls outward and cause a bulge which you will then need to cut out and then you have a hole 4x the size that you need to patch. I know this from experience. Use just enough foam to fill the hole and definitely use the metal wire mesh like he did here.

    Looks like the hole was a slot cut for a ridge vent, but seems like unnecessary for that very short ridge, and there is no vent there, likely because it made no sense. It did make the squirrel's job easier, though.

    just found your channel, and glad I did. You gave me good info on how to deal with a flying squirrel problem I have. Question., I have a lot of tall pine trees that are close to my house as you showed in a previous session. I've been seriously thinking of taking them down to prevent them from gliding onto the house. What's your recommendation? Thanks

    • @Frontlineanimalremoval
      @Frontlineanimalremoval Місяць тому

      Trees close to a house is a very personal decision as aesthetics and price of removal come into play. Flying squirrels can be kept out with proper sealing.
